Dr. Rashid Sumaila is Professor and Director, Fisheries Economics Research Unit, University of British Columbia. Sumaila has authored over 215 journal articles, including in Science and Nature. He is winner of the 2017 Benchley Oceans Award in Science and the 2016 UBC Killam Research Prize. Sumaila was named a Hokkaido University Ambassador in 2016. He has given talks at the UN Rio+20, White House, Canadian Parliament, African Union and the British House of Lords.
